Dr. Alex Yu offers a wide range of family and cosmetic dental care from 'white' composite fillings, periodontal and basic cleanings to teeth whitening. He also works closely with local specialists whenever needed. The office offers some of the latest technological advances in dentistry including the VELscope and digital radiography as well as an independent in-building lab for dentures, nightguards and sports mouthguards.
DIGITAL RADIOGRAPHY will eventually eliminate the need for photographic film similar to how digital cameras are reducing the need for film cameras. The main benefits are a reduction in patient and doctor radiation exposure by up to 90% and instant images. Another benefit of going digital is the elimination of environmental waste from traditional x-rays which have silvers, leads and the chemical developers and fixers needed to create the final image.
PREVORA is recognized by the Canadian Dental Association and Health Canada for the prevention tooth root decay. This is especially helpful to adults as they tend to have more root exposure due to gum recession. Roots on teeth have no enamel to protect them, but have many tiny tubules that allow bacteria to inhabit and cause decay. Prevora is a painless, sustained release anti-bacterial tooth coating that will reduce the number of decay causing bacteria on the tooth surfaces. Dr. Yu believes prevention is priority in health and dentistry since is better and easier to prevent problems than fix problems.
VELscope is another prevention oriented advancement which Dr. Yu incorporates into his practice. Oral cancer rates are on the rise and early diagnosis and prevention remains the primary goal of health practitioners. The VELscope is a specialized blue light that allows Dr. Yu to visualize unusual soft tissue changes in the mouth which may not be seen under regular white light.
